Hearing Aids Distribution at District Hospital Samba Under NHM Initiative

Samba, 19th April 2025: In a significant effort to improve healthcare accessibility in the region, the District Hospital Samba in Jammu and Kashmir has successfully distributed hearing aids to 13 beneficiaries under the National Health Mission (NHM) initiative. This programme, designed to provide critical support for individuals with hearing impairments, was carried out under the leadership of Dr. Nazim Zai Khan, Mission Director of NHM, and Dr. Abdul Hamid Zargar, Director of Health Services, Jammu and Kashmir.

The distribution event was led by the Chief Medical Officer of Samba, Dr. Vidhi Bhatial, alongside Medical Superintendent Dr. Mohinder Kumar, ENT Surgeon Dr. Deepshikha Sumbria, and Audiologist Mr. Naresh Jamwal. Together, they ensured the successful fitting of hearing aids to the beneficiaries, marking a crucial milestone in addressing the hearing impairment needs of the local community.

A key highlight of the event was an informative awareness lecture delivered by Dr. Deepshikha Sumbria. Her presentation focused on the critical importance of early diagnosis and management of hearing loss, particularly in children. The lecture aimed to raise awareness among families about the available resources and support systems for children with hearing impairments, emphasising the need for early intervention.

The feedback from beneficiaries was overwhelmingly positive, with many expressing heartfelt gratitude for the support provided. The distribution of hearing aids is seen as an important step towards improving the quality of life for those affected by hearing loss in the district, particularly among children.

The success of this initiative was also made possible by the dedicated efforts of DEIC Manager Mr. Sushil Bhatti, the DEIC staff, and the RBSK team Samba. Their commitment to enhancing healthcare, especially paediatric care, reflects the ongoing efforts to strengthen public health services in Jammu and Kashmir.

This initiative underscores the dedication of the National Health Mission and local health authorities to ensure that essential healthcare services, such as hearing aids and early diagnosis, are accessible to all residents of Jammu and Kashmir, particularly those in underserved regions.
