Lieutenant Governor Shri Manoj Sinha Addresses “Noor-e-Sama” Sufi Conference in Srinagar

Srinagar, 19th April 2025: Shri Manoj Sinha, Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, today delivered a keynote address at the “Noor-e-Sama” Sufi Conference held in Srinagar. The event brought together prominent Sufi scholars, members of Sufi Score Limited, the Save Youth Save Future Foundation, and various other stakeholders committed to promoting peace and harmony through Sufi teachings.

In his address, the Lieutenant Governor extended his heartfelt congratulations to all those involved in the initiative, acknowledging the invaluable contribution of Sufi scholars and organisations such as Sufi Score and Save Youth Save Future Foundation in furthering the cause of social cohesion and unity.

Shri Sinha emphasised the enduring power of Sufism in fostering peace and harmony within society. “Sufism is not just a way of thinking—it is a way of life,” he said. “It embodies a bond of love that unites individuals with one another and with the Divine. At its core, Sufism seeks to heal divisions, bringing people together through the force of compassion.”

The Lieutenant Governor went on to highlight the role of Sufism in awakening society’s collective consciousness, underscoring its focus on inner purification, love, and the establishment of a deeper relationship with the Divine. “Sufism’s message has the potential to bridge divides and unite people from all walks of life,” he remarked, stressing the universal appeal of its teachings.

Shri Sinha also reflected on the long-standing role of Sufism in combating extremism. “For centuries, Sufism has stood as a steadfast bulwark against extremist ideologies. Its teachings categorically reject violence and discrimination. Through poetry, music, and other creative forms of expression, Sufism offers an alternative narrative that strengthens efforts to counter radicalisation,” he noted.

The Lieutenant Governor further acknowledged the immense contributions of Sufi saints from Jammu and Kashmir, whose spiritual guidance has played a pivotal role in promoting unity, brotherhood, and love across communities. “The wisdom of our saints has been instrumental in fostering a sense of harmony and solidarity,” he added.

In addressing current challenges, Shri Sinha expressed concern over the actions of certain elements attempting to radicalise the region’s youth for personal gain, often with the support of external forces. “I urge the people, particularly the younger generation, to identify and isolate these divisive elements, ensuring that they have no place in our society,” he said, calling for vigilance in preserving the region’s cultural and social fabric.

The Lieutenant Governor also called for a comprehensive strategy to promote Sufi literature and teachings, especially among the youth. “We must harness the power of modern communication tools such as videos, podcasts, and social media to share the beauty and wisdom of Sufism. By involving youth influencers and establishing mentorship programmes, we can inspire the younger generation to embrace the teachings of peace and unity,” he urged.

The conference also featured captivating performances by Sufi artists, celebrating the rich cultural and spiritual traditions of Jammu and Kashmir. These performances were hailed as one of the key highlights of the event.

Among the distinguished attendees were Shri Justice N. Kotiswar Singh, Judge of the Supreme Court of India; Shri Justice Arun Palli, Chief Justice of the High Court of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh; Shri Rajiv Agarwal from Sufi Score Limited; Shri Wajahat Farooq Bhat, Chairman of the Save Youth Save Future Foundation, along with senior officials, Sufi scholars, and members of both the Sufi Score and Save Youth Save Future Foundation.

The “Noor-e-Sama” Conference was a resounding success, providing a platform to celebrate the values of peace, unity, and harmony that Sufism embodies, while reinforcing its role as a powerful force for positive change in society.
