SDM Nubra Inaugurates Sensitisation and Capacity Development Programme for Local Farmers![]() Nubra, 21 April 2025: The Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) of Nubra, Mr Mukul Beniwal, IAS, today inaugurated a one-day Sensitisation cum Capacity Development Programme at the SDM Conference Hall in Diskit. The programme was organised by the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA), under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Government of India. Addressing the gathering, SDM Mr Beniwal lauded the efforts of the organisers and underlined the importance of consistent engagement with the farming community. He instructed the Horticulture and Agriculture Officers of Nubra to provide ongoing support to farmers throughout the year, rather than limiting assistance to a single annual interaction. He also encouraged farmers to make full use of the various government schemes available to them. Highlighting the agricultural potential of the Nubra region, the SDM emphasised the significance of promoting and developing region-specific produce such as apples, apricots, and seabuckthorn, noting that these high-value crops have the potential to significantly enhance local incomes. Dr Sonam Dawa, Horticulture Officer, Nubra, provided a comprehensive overview of the horticulture schemes available through departmental online platforms. Miss Chemist Lhamo, In-charge of the SDAO Agriculture Department, Nubra, also shared detailed information regarding the range of agricultural schemes accessible at the local agriculture office. Dr Rigzin Tsewang and Ms Bhaskar, Director of Finance Compliance, further educated attendees on the core objectives of the sensitisation and capacity development initiative. Their address underscored the importance of promoting agri-exports, encouraging organic farming practices, and leveraging the unique agricultural products of Ladakh for export potential. The programme witnessed enthusiastic participation from a large number of farmers, particularly from the villages of Hunder and Diskit, reflecting the growing interest in sustainable and export-oriented agricultural development in the region. |
