Hon’ble CEC LAHDC Leh Inaugurates New Pre-Fabricated Campus of Government Degree College Khaltse and Launches Five-Day Admission Drive-cum-Bridge Course




Leh, 29 April 2025: In a significant stride towards enhancing the higher education infrastructure in the Sham region of Ladakh, the Hon’ble Chief Executive Councillor (CEC) of LAHDC Leh, Advocate Tashi Gyalson, today inaugurated the newly constructed pre-fabricated campus of Government Degree College (GDC) Khaltse. The event also marked the formal launch of a five-day Admission Drive-cum-Bridge Course aimed at facilitating increased student enrolment and providing orientation for new entrants.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by Ms Banu Prabha, Administrative Secretary, Higher Education Department; Sh. Lobzang Sherab, Hon’ble Councillor for Khaltse Constituency; and Prof. Stanzin Yangdol, Principal, GDC Khaltse, along with a host of dignitaries, faculty members, students, and community representatives.

The programme commenced with a welcome address by Principal Prof. Stanzin Yangdol, who warmly received the dignitaries and participants. She spoke of the college’s growing academic aspirations and highlighted the bridge course as a key initiative to support students transitioning to collegiate life. She expressed deep gratitude for the unwavering support extended by the UT Administration, the Hon’ble CEC, and former Commissioner/Secretary of Higher Education, Ms Padma Angmo.

Addressing the gathering, Ms Banu Prabha reiterated the UT Administration’s commitment to delivering quality higher education in the remote regions of Ladakh. She commended the college’s leadership and staff for their dedication, and encouraged students to make full use of the resources and opportunities now available within their reach.

In his keynote address, Hon’ble CEC Advocate Tashi Gyalson congratulated the people of the Sham region on the inauguration of the new campus. He acknowledged the coordinated efforts of the college administration, the Sham Education Committee, and local stakeholders in realising the vision for GDC Khaltse. “This campus is not merely a structure, but a platform for shaping young minds,” he remarked. “I urge students to remain steadfast in their pursuit of education, and assure you that LAHDC Leh will continue to provide every possible support to GDC Khaltse in the years ahead.”

On this occasion, the Hon’ble CEC also released the second edition of the college’s official newsletter SER-GI MAYON, which highlights recent institutional developments, student-led initiatives, and academic milestones.

Hon’ble Councillor for Khaltse, Sh. Lobzang Sherab, extended heartfelt appreciation to the CEC for his instrumental role in establishing the new campus. He praised the dedication of the college faculty and emphasised the institution’s potential to evolve into a leading academic hub in the Sham region with sustained community collaboration.

A moving address was delivered by Lobzang Palmo, a sixth-semester student of GDC Khaltse, who reflected on her academic journey and acknowledged the unwavering support of her teachers and the positive learning atmosphere fostered at the college.

The ceremony also featured a cultural performance by the students of GDC Khaltse, celebrating the region’s rich heritage and the vibrant spirit of its youth.

The programme concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Ms Konchok Chhoral, Senior Assistant Professor of Political Science.

The event witnessed the presence of the President and members of the Sham Education Committee, Gobas of the Sham region, Sham LBA Representative, former President of Sham LBA, Ex-Sarpanch of Khaltse, representatives of Ama Tsogspa Khaltse, faculty members, students and teachers from Government Higher Secondary School Khaltse, and members of the wider community.
