Dr Farooq Abdullah Chairs Trade Union Convention at Party Headquarters Following International Labour Day![]() Srinagar, 1 May 2025: In observance of International Labour Day, the Jammu and Kashmir National Conference today held a one-day convention of its trade union leaders and workers at the party headquarters, Nawa-e-Subha. The convention was chaired by party President Dr Farooq Abdullah and was organised by the Convenor of the Trade Union Wing, Mr GN Tailbali. The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from members of the trade union wing, reaffirming the party’s longstanding commitment to the rights and welfare of the working class. Addressing the convention, Dr Farooq Abdullah reiterated the party’s unwavering dedication to safeguarding the dignity and entitlements of workers across all sectors. He emphasised that the government under the leadership of Mr Omar Abdullah remains resolute in its efforts to address the pressing concerns faced by contractual employees, including inadequate wages, absence of employment benefits, job insecurity, and vulnerability to exploitation. “Our workers are the backbone of our society, and their rights must be protected with both sincerity and resolve. The concerns of contractual employees demand immediate attention and compassionate redressal,” Dr Farooq stated. Provincial President Kashmir, Advocate Showkat Ahmad Mir, also addressed the gathering, echoing the party’s commitment to justice, equality, and the social upliftment of the working class. He called for unity among trade union members and reaffirmed the party’s solidarity with their cause. The convention concluded with a pledge to continue advocacy for equitable labour policies and improved working conditions in Jammu and Kashmir. |
