President Vladimir Putin Holds High-Level Talks with Sultan of Oman![]() Moscow, 22 April 2025: President of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Putin, held high-level talks at the Kremlin with His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tariq Al Said of the Sultanate of Oman, who is currently in Russia on a state visit aimed at strengthening bilateral relations. The visit commenced with a formal welcoming ceremony, during which both leaders introduced their respective delegations and participated in a group photograph. The talks initially took place in a restricted format before continuing over a state breakfast in an expanded setting, underscoring the strategic nature of the discussions and the growing partnership between the two nations. At the conclusion of the talks, President Putin and His Majesty the Sultan issued a joint statement reaffirming their shared commitment to closer cooperation in a range of fields. A number of significant documents were signed following the meeting, including an intergovernmental agreement on the mutual cancellation of visa requirements, as well as a protocol amending the Intergovernmental Treaty on Trade, Economic and Technical Cooperation originally signed on 24 November 1994. In addition, memoranda of understanding were concluded between relevant agencies on climate change and low-carbon development, transport and transit, as well as on joint efforts to combat the legalisation of proceeds from crime and the financing of terrorism. Further agreements included cooperation in the fishing industry and enhanced collaboration in the fields of media and information exchange, with arrangements made between Rossiya Segodnya International Information Agency, RT Arabic, and the Ministry of Information of the Sultanate of Oman. Other areas of agreement encompassed cooperation between the Roscongress Foundation and the Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the training and retraining of diplomatic personnel, and initiatives in the sphere of scientific research and higher education. This state visit marks a significant step forward in the deepening of diplomatic, economic, and cultural ties between the Russian Federation and the Sultanate of Oman, reflecting a mutual desire to enhance coordination on both regional and global issues. |
