Pakistan Offers Condolences Over Death of Tourists in Pahalgam Terror Attack![]() Islamabad, 23 April 2025: The Government of Pakistan has expressed its condolences over the tragic loss of life following a deadly terrorist attack in Pahalgam, located in the Anantnag district of Jammu and Kashmir, which claimed the lives of 26 individuals, the majority of whom were domestic tourists. The spokesperson for Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated, “We are concerned at the loss of tourists’ lives in an attack in Anantnag district. We extend our condolences to the near ones of the deceased and wish the injured a speedy recovery.” The attack, which occurred on Tuesday afternoon, marks the deadliest act of violence in the region since the Pulwama incident in 2019. Armed militants opened fire on a group of tourists in the Baisaran area, a popular mountain meadow near the town of Pahalgam, leaving dozens dead and many others seriously wounded. Authorities in India have launched a widespread security operation in response, with both military and police forces deployed in the region to apprehend those responsible. The attack has drawn widespread condemnation from across the international community. Pakistan's statement, while stopping short of a direct political comment, comes amid heightened sensitivities in the region and ongoing efforts by both sides to manage a historically fraught relationship. |
