Kharge Condemns Pahalgam Attack, Calls It a Direct Assault on the Indian State![]() Bengaluru, 23 April 2025: Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge has condemned the terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, which claimed the lives of 26 civilians, most of them tourists, describing it as a "direct attack on the Indian state." In a statement issued on Wednesday, Mr Kharge expressed solidarity with the government and the security forces, declaring that in this moment of national grief, the entire country stands united against terrorism. “This is a direct assault on the Indian state,” the Congress President said. “In this hour of tragedy, the entire nation stands firmly with the government and the security forces in their efforts to defeat terrorism in all its forms.” He further urged the Union Government to deploy the full might of the state in tracking down and bringing the perpetrators to justice. “The government must use all its strength and resources to hunt down those responsible for this heinous crime,” he added. The attack, which occurred in the Baisaran area near Pahalgam on Tuesday afternoon, is being described as the deadliest in the Valley since the Pulwama tragedy in 2019. The gunmen targeted a group of unarmed tourists, prompting an outpouring of grief and condemnation from across the political spectrum and international community. |
