Naveen Patnaik Re-Elected as BJD President for Ninth Term, Calls for Counter to BJP’s Narrative

Bhubaneswar, 19th April 2025 — Naveen Patnaik has been re-elected as the President of the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) for the ninth consecutive term. The announcement was made during the party’s state council meeting held at the Sankha Bhawan, with PK Deb, the returning officer for the BJD’s organisational elections, confirming Patnaik’s re-election.

At 78, Patnaik has maintained a prominent role in the party’s leadership. After his re-election, Patnaik addressed party leaders and workers, emphasising the importance of countering what he referred to as a "false narrative" allegedly promoted by the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

“We lost the previous assembly election by a narrow margin, despite receiving more votes,” Patnaik said. “This was due, in part, to our inability to effectively counter the narrative presented against us. It is clear that creating such a narrative has been a key strategy used against the BJD. I urge all party workers to take an active role in exposing this narrative, particularly through social media.”

Patnaik’s re-election as BJD president comes as the party prepares for future political engagements. His remarks highlight the party’s focus on addressing its challenges in the political landscape of Odisha.
