LAHDC Leh Chairman Reviews Preparations for Visit of H.H. the 37th Drikung Kyabgön Chetsang Rinpoche and Upcoming Drikung Snake Year Teachings




Leh, 19th April 2025: The Hon’ble Chairman/Chief Executive Councillor (CEC) of the Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC), Leh, Adv. Tashi Gyalson, undertook an extensive tour of Tar-Thang, Lamayuru, and Wanla villages in the Khaltsi Sub-Division to assess preparedness for the forthcoming visit of His Holiness the 37th Drikung Kyabgön Chetsang Rinpoche and the Drikung Snake Year Teachings, scheduled to take place from 27th to 31st May 2025 at Lamayuru Photang.

The Hon’ble CEC was accompanied by Councillor for Khaltsi Constituency, Shri Lobzang Sherab; Councillor for Lamayuru Constituency, Dr. Morup Dorjey; and Nominated Councillor, Ven. Konchok Tsepal, along with senior officials from relevant departments.

The visit commenced at Tar-Thang, where the Hon’ble CEC inspected ongoing preparatory works, including the construction of a Community Hall. He directed the concerned departments to expedite all pending works and ensure timely completion of arrangements.

At Lamayuru, the Hon’ble CEC visited the Photang Rawa site, conducted a comprehensive inspection, and engaged in discussions with monks and local residents. Issues raised by the community included the need for a consistent water supply, functional BSNL mobile connectivity, adequate sanitation, effective traffic and crowd control measures, and temporary accommodation facilities to cater to the anticipated influx of devotees and tourists.

Emphasising the spiritual and cultural importance of the event—being held after a gap of 12 years—the monks appealed for full departmental support. The Hon’ble CEC assured them that all necessary measures would be taken to ensure a smooth and well-organised gathering. He stressed inter-departmental coordination and instructed officials to prioritise road widening and improvement, as well as infrastructure development in water supply, sanitation, and communication.

The tour continued to Wanla, where the Hon’ble CEC visited the Government High School, interacted with the teaching staff, and reviewed the institution’s infrastructure and progress. He also visited the historic Wanla Monastery, reiterating the administration’s commitment to inclusive development and the preservation of Ladakh’s cultural and spiritual heritage.

During a stop at Ursi, the Hon’ble CEC inspected the under-construction Vipassana Meditation Centre. He noted its future role as a significant spiritual retreat. Villagers expressed their gratitude for the continued support extended by LAHDC Leh under his leadership.

At Hinju village, the Hon’ble CEC engaged in a public interaction with residents, who acknowledged the visible development undertaken in recent years and appreciated his presence for on-ground monitoring. Villagers submitted requests concerning local infrastructure and public amenities. The Hon’ble CEC also visited Hinju Gonpa to oversee preparations for the upcoming visit of His Holiness Chetsang Rinpoche.

The Hon’ble CEC was accompanied by the Assistant Commissioner Development Leh; Superintending Engineer, PWD Leh; Sub-Divisional Magistrate Khaltsi; Executive Engineers from Public Health Engineering Division Leh, I&FC Division, and R&B Khaltsi; Block Development Officer Khaltsi; Divisional Engineer, BSNL Leh; Assistant Executive Engineer, PDD Khaltsi; and other concerned officials.

The comprehensive review tour reflects the CEC’s commitment to ensuring that the upcoming grand spiritual event is supported by meticulous planning, robust infrastructure, and coordinated departmental efforts.
