Israeli Diplomatic Couple, Yarón and Sarah, Killed in United States

In a tragic and deeply disturbing incident, an Israeli diplomatic couple were shot and killed this evening as they exited an event at the Capital Jewish Museum in Washington, D.C. The victims have been identified as Yarón Lischinsky and his fiancée, Sarah Milgram, both members of staff at the Israeli Embassy in the United States.

“This evening, a terrorist shot and killed them as they exited an event at the Capital Jewish Museum in DC,” a statement from the Israeli Embassy read, mourning the profound loss of two young lives “in the prime of their lives.”

The suspect, identified by law enforcement as 30-year-old Elias Rodriguez of Chicago, was taken into custody at the scene. Police reported that he shouted “Free Palestine” upon arrest. Authorities have launched a comprehensive investigation, examining possible links to terrorism and antisemitic incitement.

United States President Donald J. Trump condemned the attack, calling it “so sad” and “based obviously on antisemitism.”

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced an immediate increase in security at Israeli embassies and diplomatic missions around the world. Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar stated that the shooting was a “direct result of toxic, antisemitic incitement against Israel and Jews around the world.”

India’s External Affairs Minister, Dr S. Jaishankar, also issued a statement, on X(formerly Twitter), “Condemn in the strongest term the killing of Israeli diplomats in Washington DC.”

The tragic deaths of Yarón Lischinsky and Sarah Milgram have prompted renewed calls for international solidarity against hate-fuelled violence and a global commitment to ensuring the safety of diplomatic personnel.
